Pueblo CDO Kicks Off Basketball League for Township

Pueblo De Oro

Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation (PODC) spearheaded the organization of the Pueblo de Oro Sports Commission with the Intra-Township Basketball League as their first project. The Commission was put together due to the collective interest of Pueblo de Oro Township residents, who had already initiated their own mini-leagues, to extend their games beyond their respective mixed-use communities.

The league was joined by 200 players in eight teams, namely: Philamlife Village (PLV), Morning Mist Village (MMV), Hillsborough Pointe, Forest View HomesĀ (FVH), Golden Glow Village (GGV), Pueblo Locators Concentrix and Prawn House and PODC.

The successful first season kicked off with a launch at SM City CDO and an exhibition game joined by Mayor Oscar Moreno, and wrapped up with awarding ceremonies on July 4, 2015 at the MMV
Multi-Purpose Hall. The games were played over the summer and rotated venues between four village basketball courts and the Concentrix covered court, giving residents the opportunity to cheer for their home teams.

The Civic Division was dominated by the MMV team followed by GGV team in second place and the basketball teams of PLV and FVH in third. The MMV team also won the Juniors Division while FVH and GGV came in second and third, respectively. For the Open Division, Concentrix was the champion by a very close half-point margin over runner-up GGV while MMV placed third.

The Commission also donated P10,000 to the Calaanan Relocation Site Fiesta Basketball league. The site is home to families who were displaced due to Tropical Storm Sendong, fires and demolitions.

With the aim of promoting values and building community through organized sports, the Commission hopes to expand to other sports in the future.
