The efforts to raise funds for the construction of the church at Pueblo de Oro have intensified during the celebration of the feast of its patron, St. Francis Xavier, this December.
The primary fund-raising activity during the days leading up to the fiesta was a Family Bingo Jamboree at the Xavier University High School covered court on November 30, 2009. During the Chrismas season, parishioners also contributed to the funding by purchasing a small star which was used to decorate the Christmas tree at the multi-purpose hall. This is the second year the star project has been implemented.
The church will be constructed on a two-hectare property next to Philamlife Village which was donated by Pueblo to the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro for that purpose.
Parishioners of the chaplaincy are comprised of residents from Pueblo's residential villages as well as neighboring communities. Regular mass has been celebrated at the multi-purpose hall since last year but due to increasing attendance, a daily mass as well as three Sunday masses instead of one are now being held. As the Christmas season approached, residents were also able to attend misa de gallo or dawn mass beginning on December 16.
While the architectural plans for the church are being finalized, PODC is coordinating with the Archdiocese and the Parish Pastoral Council to help get corporate sponsors for the construction of the church and other auxilliary buildings.
