Pan de Pugon: Fresh Baked Bread at the Pueblo de Oro Township

The aroma of fresh-baked bread filled the Pueblo de Oro Township as Pan de Pugon held its blessing and inauguration on August 8, 2008 in its shop on Masterson Mile, a commercial strip fronting Masterson Avenue.

Pan de Pugon’s bread is baked fresh every day in a large wood-fired brick pugon oven behind the display area. In addition, the bread is bromate-free and vitamin enriched. As an added convenience to bread lovers, the bakeshop is open 24 hours a day.
Owners Kaye “Kapitan” and Awi Chaves did not have previous experience in running a bakeshop, but just loved the taste of pan de sal. Kapitan used to bring pan de sal as pasalubong whenever he came home from Manila. Awi, for her part, said, “I had the hobby of baking way back then but just for the fun of doing it.”
Despite this, when they learned that Pan de Pugon was being offered for franchise, they jumped at the chance and acquired the franchise in 2004. Their enthusiasm and perseverance proved worthwhile, as the taste of fresh, pugon-baked bread has become a hit in Cagayan de Oro. The Pueblo de Oro outlet is the fourth Pan de Pugon branch to open in the City, and Uptown Kagay-anons no longer need to go downtown to get a taste of their favorite bread.
