New Books for CDO Public Schools

By: podc (Added: 2009-05-12)

A total 17,732 textbooks were turned over to the Cagayan de Oro City Government by the ICCP Group Foundation, Inc. (IGFI), a sister company of Cagayan de Oro's premier real estate developer, Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation (PODC). Rodolfo L. Menes, VP and General Manager of PODC and President of the ORO CHAMBER, presented the books to Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula in simple ceremonies during the flag raising in City Hall on May 11, 2009.

The container van full of books arrived on May 8, 2009 at the Oro Chamber Business Development Centre in Pueblo de Oro where they were sorted by 120 students who were on summer job with the City Government.

The City Government and the Department of Education will distribute the books to 31 identified public elementary and high schools located in the southwestern portions of Cagayan de Oro City.

The books were donated by Children International - Philippines Housing Foundation, Inc. (CI-PHFI), a nonprofit humanitarian organization based in Missouri, USA, through the initiative of IGFI with the cooperation of the Rotary Club of Uptown Cagayan de Oro and the ORO CHAMBER.

According to Resty Mondia, IGFI Community Relations Officer assigned to Pueblo, they are going to work with CI-PHFI to bring in more textbooks so that students in other public schools in the city could also benefit from the program.
